Biography

Benjamin Caunt is a self taught artist born in in Victoria, British Columbia on October 2,1967. His youth spent in British Columbia and Alberta has had a great impact on his art. The outdoors were always a part of growing up and this is reflected in his subject matter.

After 15 years spent working in the residential and commercial construction industry as a professional stone and tile craftsman, Benjamin decided to focus more fully on his painting which he had stayed involved with from youth. Since 2002 he has steadily built up his portfolio and faithful following of collectors and outdoor enthusiasts. In 2008 his piece entitled “Risky Business” was included in the 2008 Ducks Unlimited Artist Portfolio. A total of 2008 signed limited edition prints were produced, the proceeds from which go towards water conservation in Canada.

Benjamin has spent significant time outside of Canada and much of his art revolves around outdoor adventures experienced in places such as Hawaii and Mexico. He has logged hundreds of hours underwater observing reef systems and the behavior of the fauna there. Bright colors and exotic shapes dominate his works from these locales.

Back home in Canada, Benjamin spends much of his time travelling throughout the west in search of inspiration. Whether it is hiking a ridge seen from afar or spending hours fishing a small section of a mountain stream, he is constantly absorbing his environment and meditating on compositions to best express his unique view of this unparalleled wilderness.

Recently, Benjamin has combined his experience as a professional stone artisan with his artistic talent. These new works incorporate a painstaking process which goes from initial idea, to sketch, to a painted piece, and finally the works is then interpreted by Benjamin into stone. The results are breathtaking, one of a kind, originals. Whether it is with brush and canvas or stone, Benjamin’s work exhibits a unique ability to capture our earthly home in a light, colour, texture, and perspective all his own. His originals and reproductions can be found in corporate and private collections across North America.

The Art Of Giclee

Giclee ,pronounced gee-clay, is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. Until recently, traditional Giclee prints have been limited to photographic papers. Now, the Giclee process enables reproduction on virtually the same media as the original artwork whether it is on canvas, textured watercolor paper,or specialty finearts papers. When done correctly, a Giclee reproduction can be virtually indistinguishable from the original artwork. The result is wide acceptance of high quality Gicless by galleries, museums, and private collectors.
